King Robinson was only 17 when he found out he had cancer. Instead of letting the diagnosis define him, he met it with a single question: what's the next step?

After beating cancer, King studied chemical engineering at LSU, earned his master gardener license, and went to work for landscaping companies to learn the craft hands-on. A fascination with how plants and soil actually work grew into something much bigger.

He realized landscaping could do far more than make a yard look good. Through green infrastructure, living plants and healthy soil absorb stormwater, cut flooding, ease heat islands, and protect homes from the wet-and-dry cycles that are causing parts of New Orleans to sink.
